Sherman C. Newman, Sr.

Office Manager/Executive Assistant

Hi! Welcome to Family Enrichment Associates! I am Sherman Newman, the Office Manager/Executive Assistant. I am the point of contact for Dr. Newman, when she is unavailable. When needed, I manage the information flow between Dr. Newman, the intern(s), and individuals and families whom we serve. I manage Dr. Newman’s calendar; therefore, I may contact you if there is a change in her schedule. I coordinate her meetings with your collateral contacts (e.g. primary care physicians, psychologists, former therapists, hospitals); represent her at managed care organization provider meetings; and I provide follow-up on billing and payment issues. My office management duties also include keeping up with office supply inventory; and water and snacks for you. During this COVID-19 pandemic, I have taken on the responsibility of sanitizing the Family Enrichment Associates office space to ensure the safety of those of you who want to come in the office for a face-to-face visit.

I have over 20-years of experience working directly and indirectly in behavioral health. I am Dr. Newman’s husband. In 1997, when I met her, I was the Willie M Coordinator (Special Education Resource Staff) at Person High School in Roxboro, NC. After we were married, I worked for an area provider serving adults with Traumatic Brain Injury for a few years. Then, I transitioned out of the field, but continued to support my wife’s progression in the field. I am a U.S. Army Veteran. I am currently employed full-time as a Facility Manager. However, in my part-time role of Executive Assistant at Family Enrichment Associates and in the role of “godparent” of a wonderful 40-year old young man with an intellectual disability, who lives in an area IDD group home (who frequently spends time with my wife and I, because we are his “family”), I remain forever connected to behavioral health.

I am the proud father of two amazing adult children. Our daughter is a medical social worker at a cancer hospital in Maryland, caring for others just like her mom. And, our son lives here in Durham, NC and is in facility management, like his dear ole’ dad.
